The subordinates will have to offer their performance to be motivated, and sanctions would be met for those that failed to meet up with the organization’s set goals. For example, a police officer is rewarded with a promotion for showing high performance that is set by the police authority. This style of leadership is considered to be effective some of the time.
Laissez-Faire Leadership Style
This form of leadership style where the subordinates are not subject to supervision. In Laissez-faire leadership, the followers are given free hand to operate and make their own decisions that will promote the organization. This style of leadership encourages the followers to be creative and to use their initiative in solving problems.
Autocratic Leadership Style
Autocratic leaders confine the availability of decisions to themselves. It’s also known as the authoritarian leadership style, the leader stipple the power of creativity from his followers. This style of leadership gives ultimate power to the leader while the followers have no say but to obey every instruction given to them. It can only be practiced by an organization with a demand for high discipline and strict compliance like the military. An organization might risk losing employees while practicing this style of leadership.
Democratic Leadership Style
This is also called the participative leadership style. A democratic form of leadership allows the followers to contribute positively to the decision-making. In a democratic leadership style, the leader would allow every member to suggest his opinion until an agreement is reached on which opinion should be taken into consideration. The democratic form of leadership requires supervision and guidance by the appointed leader. A democratic leader draws his conclusions based on the opinions and suggestions of his followers.
Paternalistic Leadership Style
This is where a Leader serves as an inspiration, a mentor, a guide, parent to his followers. He is seen as a father figure by all members of the organization. He treats every member equally and shows his affection towards all of them. The leader leads by example. This form of leadership encourages loyalty, honesty, and trust from the followers.
Transformational Leadership Style
In this style of leadership, the manager communicates his set goals (visions) with his subordinates in clear terms. He informs his followers about his visions and a roadmap that will guide them to achieve those goals. It’s a form of leadership that the leader to be intelligent, creative, and innovative. The leader motivates his subordinates to achieve a specific task within a time frame.
